Under California Education Code (Ed Code §48205), certain absences are considered excused, including but not limited to: illness, medical or dental appointments, attending a funeral for an immediate family member, court appearances, religious holidays or ceremonies, and certain approved justifiable personal reasons.

All other absences—such as vacations, family trips, or leaving early for reasons not covered by the Education Code—are considered unexcused, even if a parent notifies the school. Unexcused absences can impact a student’s academic progress and attendance record.

If you’re unsure whether your child’s absence will be excused, please contact the attendance office in advance.
